DEADWOOD LEATHER

Deadwood Leather

Deadwood Leather out of Sweden has just arrived in-store for the first time.

Committed to providing a sustainable alternative, Deadwood Leather jackets are made using recycled materials. By sourcing vintage leather and recycling, or up-cycling, to produce their leather jackets the C02 emissions are just 5kg per jacket – compare this to 200kg when a leather jacket is produced in today’s standard mass production process and you see just how good a thing Deadwood is doing by saving and repurposing some of the huge amounts of fully functional leather that are thrown away everyday.

In the process they’re also producing some very cool looking leather goods. The Biker Jacket is their staple piece and with the addition of a few more styles, Deadwood Leather has produced a collection that celebrates the free spiritedness and ageless rebellion that goes hand in hand with motorcycle culture.

The Biker Jacket and Biker Vest are offered in both men’s and women’s styles and the River’s Edge Jacket reminds us that leather & denim were born to go hand in hand.

Deadwood Leather is in-store now and soon to be online.

Free Speech

Skargorn is introducing their ‘Free Speech Motherfuckers’ winter campaign with a launch party next Wednesday 22nd May at Somedays Gallery. The campaign is based on the notion of no censorship. Born from the idea that human personalities are increasingly lost in social jungles of nonsense, the campaign celebrates freedom of speech, advocating the notion to speak your mind about the issues you feel strongly about. After all, opinions aren't just for Facebook statuses. With live music by Bang! Bang! Rock n’ Roll and drinks courtesy of Sailor Jerry and Quiet Deeds, make sure you’re on the door by rsvp’ing over here

Where would we be...

Mothers Day

...without our mothers?

If that pending friend request from your mother still lingers on your Facebook, remind yourself that this woman breathed life into your tiny baby body. Yes you may not want her to see the going-ons of your social life, as it will probably provide her with an endless source of things she can vocally disapprove of. Just remember this nagging comes from a place of love. She will always be there to provide that comforting hug and that home cooked meal. She deserves your thanks, so show it to her this Mother’s Day.

We have your back here at Somedays, so we have put together a smorgasbord of gift suggestions that will earn you high scale brownie points. Also, be sure not to insult your mother by turning up on her day in shabby attire, pick something up for yourself while you are there, she notices these things.

Join us in store this Thursday (Sydney) and Friday (Melbourne) for bubbles, beers, and ‘motherly’ tunes by DJ Stu.

Spalwart Classics

spalwart

The Spalwart story is definitely an interesting one. Last century, as the world experienced a revolution in mass production, there were those that thrived and those that didn't.

In Eastern Europe it was inevitable that some manufacturing plants were abandoned. When a journey to Slovakia discovered long-forgotten footwear moulds and old machinery sitting idle, Spalwart was born.

Manufactured in the same plant with the same moulds and machinery used in the 1950’s these shoes are a real piece of history from a bygone era. When you hold a pair of Spalwart’s in your hand you feel like you’re holding something new and old at the same time - these shoes have real heritage and who doesn't love a little bit of heritage?

The non-perfection in each pair is actually what characterises them. Spalwart have captured this period in shoe-making history to produce some classic styles like the Special Low, the Special Mid and Special 1956 Mid.

If you’re captivated by nostalgia or just like a classic pair of shoes then take a look at the new Spalwart goods in-store or shop online

New Arrivals from Gram

Gram

If you’re all about sophisticated sneakers then turn your attention to the new collection from Gram.

Drawing inspiration from the islands of post-war South Pacific, Technicolour and beatnik fashion, Alexis Holm, Chief Designer at Gram, envisions “author, and Beat Generation front figure Jack Kerouac and Carolyn Cassady wearing this collection when escaping on a secret holiday”.

This season’s women’s 380g comes in a camouflage overlayed with Hawaii bauhinia flower prints and we’re big fans of the klein blue used in the blue leopard colour way. They've even created a new shoe for the ladies, the 358g – a fusion of classic Scandinavian design aesthetic and a little heel height has transformed the classic Swedish clog into a night-time companion.

As with every Gram collection these shoes are made to stand the test of time.  True craftsmanship shows through in every style – from the drum dyed full grain cow leather, raw brass trims and hand-stitching through to Gram’s own brogue décor where each hole is hand-punched by skilled artisans.

The latest from Gram is available now in-store and online here for men's and here for women's.

FOUR&SONS Print Journal Release

four&sons

In celebration of their first anniversary, Four&Sons have released a souvenir print edition in the form of the Four&Sons journal. Just like its digital counterpart -fourandsons.com – this limited edition journal is a celebration of all things dog-centric.

What makes it even more special is that the editors chose their first foray into print to produce an issue that celebrates the work of artists, designers and writers who are inspired by their relationships with man’s best friend. It’s a collision of dogs and culture – within the sixty pages you’ll find a feature on Peter Webb’s surf culture icon, Ghetto Dog, photography by Traer Scott on shelter dogs and Theron Humphrey’s snapshots of his dog, Maddie, stuck in tight spots.

Somedays is one of the few places you get your paws on a copy, for free.

Rust And Bone Giveaway

There's no shame in admitting that every male around our camp has a healthy little crush on Marion Cotillard. So, it is with much excitement that, thanks to our friends over at Hopscotch Films, we have 10 double passes to giveaway to the the upcoming release Rust and Bone from acclaimed director Jacques Audiard.

Based on the book of short stories by Canadian author Craig Davidson, Rust and Bone follows Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts) a mid-twenties dropout. Penniless and landed with a 5-year-old son to look after, he goes to stay with his sister in Antibes and starts looking for work. At a nightclub he meets Stephanie (Marion Cotillard), a killer whale trainer at the local Marineland Water Park. Alain is fascinated by her, but Stephanie isn't interested in him, until she suffers a tragic accident that leaves her handicapped. An unusual, physical and codified relationship develops between them.

As in Audiard's previous films, with Rust and Bone he takes two characters in an unlikely relationship, on the margins of society, plagued by their inner demons and obsessions, and delivers a deeply dramatic punch.

For your chance to win tickets to this powerful and arresting film, drop us a line at media@somedays.com.au and make sure you include your name and address.

Rust and Bone will be released in cinemas on the 28th of March.

Jose Gonzalez: Portrait 01 by Velour

Velour, one of our longest held labels, has teamed up with the Swedish-Argentine singer and songwriter Jose Gonzalez to further validate the natural links between music and fashion.

It turns out that Jose, much like us, has a particular inclination towards Velour's clean and slightly nostalgic look, so they invited him to put together a selection of outfits from the upcoming collection. The result is a highly considered series of video portraits presenting the new season's garb alongside the artist's resounding musical talent.

The portraits will be released in four parts, and the latest offering (part 2) shows Jose giving an intimate performance in an empty wing of the Gothenburg Museum of Art. Take a minute or three out of your day to check out the videos over here and stay tuned for the remainder of the series as well as the arrival of Velour's latest collection in the coming weeks.

One of the great Coppolas

Sofia Coppola

Some of us may know Sofia Coppola only by virtue of her not-so-unknown last name. Her family is pretty much as close you can get to cinematic royalty (let’s pretend Nicolas Cage is not a close relative for now), with her father, Francis Ford, firmly on the throne as one of the film industry’s most influential figures. If you are an avid film enthusiast like us, however, you would also know that Sofia is not so bad at the film-making profession herself, with films like “Lost in translation” and “The virgin suicides” decorating her resume. As much as we like her as a filmmaker though, today we would like to shine a light on her damn fine skills as a dresser.

Her style has been described as understated, elegant, mature and simplistic. You will often see her in timeless and classic pieces combined with more personal details. She is most undeniably a master of striking that perfect balance of assertive masculinity and lady-like demure, with an ability to make wearing loafers and tapered pants on the red carpet look glamorous and feminine. That being said, our real appreciation of Sofia lies in her tendency to take the term ‘effortless’ to a whole new level; she certainly knows how to dress and does it very well but she is unassuming about it.

Venroy Boardshorts

In the wake of the Australia Day long weekend, it seems only fitting that we turn the spotlight to one of our much loved national icons, the boardshort (aka boardies, cozzies, trunks, togs or swimmers).

Thankfully, these new arrivals from Venroy are a far cry from the low-slung, velcro-flied and logo-emblazoned styles that plague our coastline each summer. Venroy’s offering is a much smarter affair sporting a tailored cut, subtle block colours and geometric prints. There’s a clear emphasis on function and durability so their good looks aren’t just for show.

And, to ensure your sense of national pride remain intact, they’re designed in Sydney and made right here in Australia – you beauty.

Venroy is available now in stores and online right here.
