DEADWOOD LEATHER

Deadwood Leather

Deadwood Leather out of Sweden has just arrived in-store for the first time.

Committed to providing a sustainable alternative, Deadwood Leather jackets are made using recycled materials. By sourcing vintage leather and recycling, or up-cycling, to produce their leather jackets the C02 emissions are just 5kg per jacket – compare this to 200kg when a leather jacket is produced in today’s standard mass production process and you see just how good a thing Deadwood is doing by saving and repurposing some of the huge amounts of fully functional leather that are thrown away everyday.

In the process they’re also producing some very cool looking leather goods. The Biker Jacket is their staple piece and with the addition of a few more styles, Deadwood Leather has produced a collection that celebrates the free spiritedness and ageless rebellion that goes hand in hand with motorcycle culture.

The Biker Jacket and Biker Vest are offered in both men’s and women’s styles and the River’s Edge Jacket reminds us that leather & denim were born to go hand in hand.

Deadwood Leather is in-store now and soon to be online.

Spalwart Classics

spalwart

The Spalwart story is definitely an interesting one. Last century, as the world experienced a revolution in mass production, there were those that thrived and those that didn't.

In Eastern Europe it was inevitable that some manufacturing plants were abandoned. When a journey to Slovakia discovered long-forgotten footwear moulds and old machinery sitting idle, Spalwart was born.

Manufactured in the same plant with the same moulds and machinery used in the 1950’s these shoes are a real piece of history from a bygone era. When you hold a pair of Spalwart’s in your hand you feel like you’re holding something new and old at the same time - these shoes have real heritage and who doesn't love a little bit of heritage?

The non-perfection in each pair is actually what characterises them. Spalwart have captured this period in shoe-making history to produce some classic styles like the Special Low, the Special Mid and Special 1956 Mid.

If you’re captivated by nostalgia or just like a classic pair of shoes then take a look at the new Spalwart goods in-store or shop online

New Arrivals from Gram

Gram

If you’re all about sophisticated sneakers then turn your attention to the new collection from Gram.

Drawing inspiration from the islands of post-war South Pacific, Technicolour and beatnik fashion, Alexis Holm, Chief Designer at Gram, envisions “author, and Beat Generation front figure Jack Kerouac and Carolyn Cassady wearing this collection when escaping on a secret holiday”.

This season’s women’s 380g comes in a camouflage overlayed with Hawaii bauhinia flower prints and we’re big fans of the klein blue used in the blue leopard colour way. They've even created a new shoe for the ladies, the 358g – a fusion of classic Scandinavian design aesthetic and a little heel height has transformed the classic Swedish clog into a night-time companion.

As with every Gram collection these shoes are made to stand the test of time.  True craftsmanship shows through in every style – from the drum dyed full grain cow leather, raw brass trims and hand-stitching through to Gram’s own brogue décor where each hole is hand-punched by skilled artisans.

The latest from Gram is available now in-store and online here for men's and here for women's.

Brooks England

Unless you've been living under a particularly large rock for the last couple of years, you've probably noticed the dramatic surge in the number of cyclists about town. While the mainstream media are quick to align this trend with their sweeping definitions of faddish 'hipster' culture, we tend to think that two wheels are indeed better than four.

We'd also be inclined to think that Brooks England may share our point of view. They've been manufacturing some of the finest cycling equipment since a young man named John Boultbee Brooks bought himself one of those new fangled velocipedes back in 1865. After experiencing some significant posterial discomfort atop the wooden saddle, he set about designing and developing a more comfortable alternative in his father's leather workshop. And so, the Brooks saddle was born.

Today, Brooks England offer a complete range of cycle-related furnishings for your wheels and your person. We've just received our first drop including the classic 'Colt' saddle, tool bags, grip kits and more. You can take a look at the range right here.

Illesteva

As we enter the danger-zone of summer, it’s more important than ever to make sure you protect your peepers from that good old hole in the ozone layer. Thankfully, the upside to our rather unfortunate geographical location is that you’re completely justified investing in as many pairs of sunglasses as you damn well please. Because, it’s for your health right?

Illesteva (a little pun on gangster speak “Illest evuh”) are a New York based design duo carving out a devout following for their bold and experimental take on classic eyewear. Offering a unique interpretation of styles from bygone eras, the collection combines superior craftsmanship with innovative materials and a fairly apparent sense of fun.

Take a look at our latest arrivals right here.

Petite Grand

Buying a piece of jewellery for that special someone can be a daunting task. Be it your lover, sister, mother or daughter – your decision is ultimately a reflection of how well you know those closest to you. Our advice is to keep things simple, stick to what you know and you’ll be sure to avoid the feigned ‘oh, it’s lovely’ come Christmas morning.

Keeping things simple, in the best way possible, is Sydney-based jewellery label Petite Grand. After 15 years in the fashion industry, designer Tanja Kovacevic decided to take some time out and pursue her dream to create her own line of jewellery. The result is a delicate and supremely feminine collection that combines the purity of geometric shapes with the understated elegance of precious metals.

Each piece is made by hand in Tanja’s Elizabeth Bay studio – wrap one up for someone else and you’ll be sure to get that extra glow of satisfaction this Christmas.

Petite Grand is available now in stores and online here.

Salt Water Sandals - New Colours

Originating in the 1940s from the leather shortages in the wake of the Second World War, Salt Water Sandals were primarily made from the scrap leather left over from making men's dress shoes. From such humble beginnings, these simple summer sandals are now regarded as a modern cult classic.

Today, each pair of sandals is made from specially treated waterproof leather that actually moulds to your feet when wet. They’re super comfortable straight out of the box and equally suited to summery afternoons by the beach or an evening on the town. They’re also the perfect alternative to that unsightly and all-too-common Australian classic – the thong.

We’ve just received a delivery of new colours and if it’s anything like last summer, they’ll be literally walking out the door. You can pick them up in store right now or order a pair from the comfort of your computer over here.

New Arrivals From Moscot

Moscot Eyewear has been a New York institution for nearly 100 years. The brand's optical roots were first planted by Hyman Moscot, who arrived from Eastern Europe in 1899 and began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart in Manhattan’s famed Lower East Side.

The Moscot Originals collection celebrates the brand's classic good looks and timeless design born in decades past. The eyewear retains the authenticity of the original frame styles including real glass lenses, traditional hardware, and lens colours that precisely duplicate the original shades first fabricated by the company in the 1940s.

We’ve just received a fresh batch with a couple of spanking new additions to our ever-expanding selection. If you’re looking some much-needed protection for your peepers this summer, these babies are a very good option.

Neuw Womens Summer Collection

The concept of ‘vintage revision’ has been at the very core of locally based denim label Neuw since they first emerged on the market in 2009. In fact, the label was spawned from designer Par Lundqvist’s personal fixation with denim apparel from bygone eras. At last count, his collection stood at around 2500 pairs of jeans, shirts and jackets ranging from the 1800s through to the present day.

Neuw’s latest women’s collection demonstrates a clear and present evolution of this theme and sees the previously denim focused label shift towards a wider and more complete offering. The label’s vintage aesthetic comes to the fore in an altogether summery assortment of tops, shirts, shorts and dresses – each perfectly suited to the fairest of the seasons. Our pick would have to be the dreamy, floral printed Santa Monica combo but we'll let you make up your own mind.

Rolla's Denim

Starting your own denim label is a pretty ballsy move. Mainly because denim is incredibly difficult to do well and it’s already a hugely saturated market. We’re not trying to discourage anyone, but just sayin’ – we tip our hats to anyone willing to give it a go.

Designer couple Andy Paltos & Sarah Gilsenan are a pair deserving of such recognition. After years of working within the denim industry, they decided to chart their own course and launched Rolla’s, a denim label offering a distinctly Australian take on what a pair of jeans should be.

Joining forces with the classic jeans brands Faberge, the label takes its cue from Andy and Sarah’s experiences growing up in the coastal suburbs of Melbourne. It’s a heady mix of pub rock, Countdown and that quintessentially Australian coastal/urban lifestyle. With their collective denim experience, they use modern fabrications and technology for jeans that fit precisely how jeans should fit.

Rolla’s are currently available in store and will be online in the not too distant future.

Dr Denim Karl Chinos

The humble chino has certainly experienced somewhat of a renaissance these past few years. And rightly so, it’s a fine pant. They’re versatile and comfortable and thanks to labels like Dr Denim, you can find just the right shade to match your present state of mind.

Their latest interpretation, named Karl, is a slightly slimmer take on the overwhelmingly popular Donk style. It’s an altogether economical affair, roomy up top, heavily tapered towards the ankle and cut from the same durable double yarn cotton twill.

If you’re still struggling to make the jump from skinny jeans to a more ‘grown up’ pant, this is a very good option. Think of them as your gateway chino, but be warned – it can be an addictive path.

Available now in store and online here.

The garments in question have that well-worn and comfortable look while remaining inventive and original.

Provensen Shoes

As a male, it’s difficult to pass judgement on women’s footwear choices. However, if I was a girl or simply had the urge for a little gender bending, these summery new arrivals from Provensen would definitely be at the top of my list.

Based in Sydney, Provensen create shoes that strike a comfortable balance between the classic and contemporary. We recently caught up with designer and founder Faye Montelban to find out a little more about her latest collection and her obsession with underpants.

Could you tell us a bit about this season's collection?

I wanted to do a collection that felt light, breezy and subtle. I generally like to incorporate a balance of masculine and feminine elements but have done that with mainly colour in past collections. For example, I have previously done a lot of bold striking colour but wanted to totally flip that around this season. The balancing was more with shapes and textures and not as much with colour. The palette was kept simple. The colours remind me of when you are right in the middle of summer. When you can wake up every day and the weather is warm. I imagined the colours and materials against sun kissed skin and light feminine floaty fabrics.

Karhu Originals

Here’s an interesting little snippet of trivia. In 1951, a small Finnish footwear manufacturer named Karhu sold the three stripes trademark it had been using to another little known German brand called Adidas for the equivalent of 1600 euros and two bottles of whiskey – not a bad deal.

Truth be told, long before Adidas (or Nike) had set foot on the track and field circuit, Karhu was carrying athletes across the line in record times. In 1920, a group of Finnish athletes known as the ‘Flying Finns’ took home five Olympic gold medals wearing Karhu spikes.

The Karhu Originals range pays homage to this golden era of Finnish athletics. At the heart of the collection is the Fulcrum Star, a simple take on the classic running shoe. If you’re in the market for a new pairs of sneakers and looking for something a little less generic than the big name brands, these babies are ready to go.
