Buying a piece of jewellery for that special someone can be a daunting task. Be it your lover, sister, mother or daughter – your decision is ultimately a reflection of how well you know those closest to you. Our advice is to keep things simple, stick to what you know and you’ll be sure to avoid the feigned ‘oh, it’s lovely’ come Christmas morning.
Keeping things simple, in the best way possible, is Sydney-based jewellery label Petite Grand. After 15 years in the fashion industry, designer Tanja Kovacevic decided to take some time out and pursue her dream to create her own line of jewellery. The result is a delicate and supremely feminine collection that combines the purity of geometric shapes with the understated elegance of precious metals.
Each piece is made by hand in Tanja’s Elizabeth Bay studio – wrap one up for someone else and you’ll be sure to get that extra glow of satisfaction this Christmas.

Originating in the 1940s from the leather shortages in the wake of the Second World War, Salt Water Sandals were primarily made from the scrap leather left over from making men's dress shoes. From such humble beginnings, these simple summer sandals are now regarded as a modern cult classic.
Today, each pair of sandals is made from specially treated waterproof leather that actually moulds to your feet when wet. They’re super comfortable straight out of the box and equally suited to summery afternoons by the beach or an evening on the town. They’re also the perfect alternative to that unsightly and all-too-common Australian classic – the thong.
We’ve just received a delivery of new colours and if it’s anything like last summer, they’ll be literally walking out the door. You can pick them up in store right now or order a pair from the comfort of your computer over here.

As a male, it’s difficult to pass judgement on women’s footwear choices. However, if I was a girl or simply had the urge for a little gender bending, these summery new arrivals from Provensen would definitely be at the top of my list.
Based in Sydney, Provensen create shoes that strike a comfortable balance between the classic and contemporary. We recently caught up with designer and founder Faye Montelban to find out a little more about her latest collection and her obsession with underpants.
Could you tell us a bit about this season's collection?
I wanted to do a collection that felt light, breezy and subtle. I generally like to incorporate a balance of masculine and feminine elements but have done that with mainly colour in past collections. For example, I have previously done a lot of bold striking colour but wanted to totally flip that around this season. The balancing was more with shapes and textures and not as much with colour. The palette was kept simple. The colours remind me of when you are right in the middle of summer. When you can wake up every day and the weather is warm. I imagined the colours and materials against sun kissed skin and light feminine floaty fabrics.

The concept of ‘vintage revision’ has been at the very core of locally based denim label Neuw since they first emerged on the market in 2009. In fact, the label was spawned from designer Par Lundqvist’s personal fixation with denim apparel from bygone eras. At last count, his collection stood at around 2500 pairs of jeans, shirts and jackets ranging from the 1800s through to the present day.
Neuw’s latest women’s collection demonstrates a clear and present evolution of this theme and sees the previously denim focused label shift towards a wider and more complete offering. The label’s vintage aesthetic comes to the fore in an altogether summery assortment of tops, shirts, shorts and dresses – each perfectly suited to the fairest of the seasons. Our pick would have to be the dreamy, floral printed Santa Monica combo but we'll let you make up your own mind.

Starting your own denim label is a pretty ballsy move. Mainly because denim is incredibly difficult to do well and it’s already a hugely saturated market. We’re not trying to discourage anyone, but just sayin’ – we tip our hats to anyone willing to give it a go.
Designer couple Andy Paltos & Sarah Gilsenan are a pair deserving of such recognition. After years of working within the denim industry, they decided to chart their own course and launched Rolla’s, a denim label offering a distinctly Australian take on what a pair of jeans should be.
Joining forces with the classic jeans brands Faberge, the label takes its cue from Andy and Sarah’s experiences growing up in the coastal suburbs of Melbourne. It’s a heady mix of pub rock, Countdown and that quintessentially Australian coastal/urban lifestyle. With their collective denim experience, they use modern fabrications and technology for jeans that fit precisely how jeans should fit.
Rolla’s are currently available in store and will be online in the not too distant future.

In the eyes of the rest of world, Australia is basically one big, dry desert surrounded by sun-drenched beaches. And while that may be true, those of us who live here know that we see our fair share of rainy days. In fact, last year alone Sydney had 175 of them and Melbourne had 158 – that’s almost half the year.
Why all this talk about rain? Well, we’ve just received our first delivery from Rains, a Danish label making some sharp attire to keep the drizzle at bay. The range caters to the lads and ladies, with a tidy selection of coats, ponchos and rainproof bags. The fit and finish is top-notch and they’re a far cry from that plastic-y yellow number you wore as a kid.
Umbrellas are out, raincoats are in – enough said.
