Karhu Originals

Here’s an interesting little snippet of trivia. In 1951, a small Finnish footwear manufacturer named Karhu sold the three stripes trademark it had been using to another little known German brand called Adidas for the equivalent of 1600 euros and two bottles of whiskey – not a bad deal.

Truth be told, long before Adidas (or Nike) had set foot on the track and field circuit, Karhu was carrying athletes across the line in record times. In 1920, a group of Finnish athletes known as the ‘Flying Finns’ took home five Olympic gold medals wearing Karhu spikes. 

The Karhu Originals range pays homage to this golden era of Finnish athletics. At the heart of the collection is the Fulcrum Star, a simple take on the classic running shoe. If you’re in the market for a new pairs of sneakers and looking for something a little less generic than the big name brands, these babies are ready to go.

Original Saltwater Sandals

Somewhat of a cult classic stateside, Saltwater Sandals have finally made their way to our fine shores - just in time for summer no less.

Originating in the 1940s from the leather shortages in the wake of the second World War, Saltwater Sandals were primarily made from the scrap leather left over from making men's dress shoes.

Today, each pair of sandals are made from special treated natural leathers and have become renowned for their interlinking strap design. We've just received a fresh batch in a variety of colours and they're literally walking out the door - ahem.

Espadrij L'Originale

Authentic and true - Espadrij l'Originale are giving the humble espadrille a new lease on life. Originating from the Pyrenees and popularised in the 1940s by screen luminaries such as Lauren Bacall and Grace Kelly, espadrilles became synonymous with pared-down seaside style.

Manufactured in a small French village using traditional techniques, each pair is constructed from high-quality canvas with a water resistant jute sole. We've just taken delivery of a range of styles for ladies and gents - check out the men's selection online here and the women's here.

Introducing Rupert and Rosie, two spritely new arrivals from The Horse.

Offering an updated take on the classic riding boot, both sport an elasticated side panel for easy access and a sturdy ankle strap to keep you safe and secure as you trot about town.

Royal Republiq Bags & Belts

There ain’t nothing like the smell of fresh leather to quicken the pulse and conjure up thoughts of rugged cowboys, rock’n’roll icons or the interior of a classic Volvo. Ok…that may bit of a stretch but it definitely evokes some kind of grand nostalgia. Did you know that the iconic 70s fragrance ‘Aramis’ was actually based on this simultaneously robust and refined aroma?

Why all this talk about leather you ask? Well, because that's pretty much all we’ve been inhaling since we received the latest shipment from Danish label Royal Republiq. This relatively young collective have quickly made themselves known for their high-quality footwear and leather goods.

Meandher Footwear

The debut collection from Meandher footwear pilots the inspiration for designer Emily Cooper, whose ethos is to bestow ‘gallant shoes for gallant men’.

Each shoe is crafted with the highest quality materials, fabrics are hand selected and individually dyed to achieve the brand’s unique look and feel. Belief in a hands-on approach to every stage of the process, from design to manufacture, ensures superior levels of finish and comfort are consistently delivered.
